Results and Enjoyment
21 October 2008
Hey Everyone,
Hope you've all been well. Sorry I have not written in a bit, but things here have been busy with the classes like you would not believe. As many of you know, we recently expanded on the amount of classes being taught and it seems like that trend is going to continue for the forseeable future. | |

I am in good spirits and things are really looking up these days.
In fact even with classes aside, I am still busy with DWTS and have a new development to share.
I wanted to let all of you know that I will be performing on this Tuesday's results show with Karina Smirnoff. It is going to be a jive to Brian Setzer Orchestra's "Rock This Town" and I think you will all enjoy it ;-).
We're looking forward to it and I am happy to get back on camera and perform for you all again.
Hope you will join Karina and I Tuesday evening.
Definitely stay tuned for more updates and as always, thanks so much for all the support!
Love,
Louisxxx

I am soooo sad you are not on this year. You should have been paired with Susan Lucci. I don't know what the producers are thinking. On the up-side it was aewsome seeing you on Tuesdays show with Karina. You were awesome. I look forward to more surprise appearances from you. Glad to hear you are doing well and I will definitely be getting the video. Too bad I am in NY and not LA or I would be joining the class. Stay well. I miss you.

I just saw your comments in the TV Guide about Cheryl being overweight and I could not believe that you used a publication to devalue someone like that. I am sure that you have had comments made to you over the years about being a small man in size and that not being great for partner dancing but I am sure you would not want that thrown out to the public. The dancers all look wonderful and instead of making the public feel that they are not the right size to dance it has helped them know that no matter what they can do it and i would think that is what you should be talking to reporters about and not bad mouthing people. I would hope you applogize in public to the dancers that you have trashed. I sincerally feel sorry for you that you have such a negative view of the world and I hope that that changins so you can enjoy life.

I also read the zinging comment about both of the female dancers on DWTS. I am sincerely hoping that those comments were taken out of context because your PR person is going to be doing the backtrack dance on this one. As far as voting for you and Max on the upcoming shows, so not happening. I don't care how amazing the dancing is, all women of all sizes should let it be known those kinds of hypercritical comments are extremely unkind and unnecessary. A size 4 is fat? Last I saw I don't recall this being a serious competition as far as a world ranking dance competition and those women are not stick then either some of them. Fully toned physical bodies good grief and we wonder why 10 year old's are struggling with eating disorders. What a shame and shame on you and Max.

I too read the comments about Cheryl and Lacey. I cannot believe that you would embarrass a collegue like that. That shows me how truly unprofessional you and Maxim are. And further more, I think they are beautiful just the way they are! I would love to see the producers of dancing with the stars pair you and Maxim with full figured women every season you are now on the show. I think Marissa Jaret Winoker was a prime example of how a full figured woman can compete and still be full figured. There is nothing unhealthy about their size. I've often wondered about the true sexual orientation of the men on that show...well it must be true that you are all straight because no gay man in his right mind would ever say something so ridiculous! You both should be ashamed of yourselves!

How disappointing. I was a huge fan of yours until I read the comments you made about two of the most beautiful and talented women on television. My fiance would never watch a ballroom dancing show- until he saw those two. They look like me- the average American woman who works, goes to school, takes care of a family and actually eats now and then. Not everyone is attracted to skeleton-thin women, Louis. In fact, REAL men find voluptuous, confident women to be extremely attractive. I was active in sports my entire life and I NEVER looked like a supermodel- because I didn't want to. I am a WOMAN, not a ten year old. Curves, softness and sexiness is what differentiates women from little girls, just like tact, respect and appreciation for real women is what differentiates the men from the boys. Enough said.

Loving my CURVES!
If it's true that you said the both Cheryl and Lacey need to lose weight.. then you are an IDIOT!!!.. How dare you say that to the media so they can then splash it all around...young girls look up to these women.. and for you to say that their performance effects them because of their weight!??!?... It's women like them that give all NORMAL women the hope that you can be any size.. look great and do great.. unfortuantely.. people like you are the cause for anorexics and bulmics...

Mr. van Amstel, I think the comments you made about Lacey Schwimmer and Cheryl Burke are shameful. In the first place they are your colleagues and if you have real concerns about something related to your work with them then the honorable thing to do would be to approach them privately and not publicly ridicule them. Did you have the courage to face them like a man and tell them that you thought they were overweight before speaking to the press? Or was that your way of telling them what you think? In the second place and more importantly do you honestly think that these two women are overweight? If you so, you need to have your eyes and probably your sensibilities checked. If your real concern is about inspiring others then you need to realize that the true inspiration comes from the dedication and commitment these women have to their profession. They work incredibly hard to teach those that have no dancing acumen and they dance through injuries and pain. And in the event that that they are eliminated they are graceful "losers" and they continue to cheer on their colleagues (something you could use a serious lesson in). In addition all of the celebrities that are a part of the show come in all shapes and sizes. And they all train very hard and on Monday night they get out there and dance their hearts out. They say to the world that you can do anything you put your mind to no matter your size or shape. How do you think some of the female celebrities that have been on the show who are more than a size 0 or 2 feel about your comments? Do you think any celebrity is going to want to dance with you in the future? Unlikely! I am reading a lot of backlash from the public on your comments and they are deserved. However, I think you have probably inflicted your own punishment because I doubt the producers of DWTS are going to be in any rush to invite you to dance again considering your comments. I think at the very least you owe Cheryl and Lacey a public apology since your criticism of them was public. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Mr. van Amstel, I am delighted to read so many comments from fans and former fans of yours regarding your comments about Cheryl Burke and Lacey Schwimmer. As a dance and theatre educator myself I am appalled that you would make such criticisms. In the last year alone I have seen my sister-in-law (a former ballerina) die from complications of anorexia nervosa, saw a student pass out cold in my class because she was suffering from anorexia and refused to eat, watched a third struggle mightily with trying to survive college while battling bulimia. I understand that medically anorexia and bulimia may be the result of a gene of predisposition and that not all girls (or boys) subjected to the same pressures will develop an eating disorder, but the social pressures do not help. That someone in your position would be so heartles sas to pepetuate such unreasonable images of beauty and acceptability is infuriating to me. I agree with the posters here that Lacey and Cheryl are BEAUTIFUL women and don't even have a passing aquaintance with fat. However, I hold little hope that you and others like you will change your opinion. I can only hope, for the sake of dancers to come and in honor of my sister in law, my two students, myself (as a survivor of anorexia) and all the other dancers (both male and female) that have struggled with this issue over the years that those of us who are more reasonable and less judgemental than you can begin to change the culture. Additonally, as a professional, if you have to have such negative and hurtful thoughts and comments, you should keep to yourself. It is the height of unprofessionalism to "trash talk" your colleagues. I only hope that you "hear" the comments that have been made here and that they force you to take a look in the mirror.

Wow! You have a lot of nerve calling Lacy, and Cheryl fat. They are by NO means fat! It’s people that think like you that drive young girls to eating disorders. Your ridiculous.

Louis, Louis, Louis... what were you thinking? Tsk, tsk. Making comments about Cheryl and Lacey were not very professional OR nice. You have always been my favorite male dancer on the show, so step up, make nice, and admit you were on drugs or something when you made that comment about their weight. Apologize!!!

Louis, did it make you feel important to disparage Cheryl and Lacey about your perception of their weight? Seems it has cost you with your fan base. You should apologize and get your dance shoe out of your mouth.

Shame on you. You will NEVER get my vote no matter who you are paired with. Your comments are disgraceful.
Cheryl and Lacey are two of the most talented and beautiful dancers in the competition. You should take a few lessons from them about being professional.
Where are your DWTS trophies?
The world is MUCH bigger and brighter than your small Dancing world. It's time to open your eyes up and see what real women look like. You've abused your Professional status and have brought down the reputation of the show.
Shame, Shame, Shame..

Mr Van Amstel, It appears that I am not alone in being disgusted with your (and Maxs') comments regarding your "overweight" co-stars on DWTS. Are you NUTS? Cheryl and Lacey are beautiful talented women who don't need to be judged by people like you two. I not only admire them and envy them, but I know they are better than either of you men. Weren't you listening when your Mother told you to respect women and to treat them with dignity? Guess not. You should be ashamed of yourself. I know I am ashamed of you.

Hi Louis, I wanted to write and congratulate you after your wonderful performance with Aretha Franklin on DWTS but my Internet was not working--so I will do so now. It was the highlight of a super show.
